Core Engineering

We provide our core Electrical and Instrument Engineering and Design Services as well as Layout, HVAC, and Fire Engineering

Layout Engineering and 3D Modeling

Picture
Layout Engineering and modeling provides the baseline for continued design. The activities include:
  • Building sizing and segregation for equipment function
  • Fire zoning & fire suppression gas design
  • Cable plenums and raised floor spaces for cables
  • MCT Penetrations and interface to topside cable / pipe routing
  • Door, stairs and landings coordination for equipment removal.
  • Zoning for HVAC system design

Mechanical Engineering

 HVAC Engineering

HVAC expertise includes all aspects of HVAC air and water cooled systems for environmental control of equipment rooms and living quarters. Our scopes include:
  • Heat calculations from electrical equipment and cables
  • Solar radiation and insulation coordination
  • HVAC sizing and air flow calculations
  • Ducting and Instrumentation diagrams (DIDs)
  • Main equipment selection
  • Ducting and damper layouts

Front-End Engineering and Design

General

We are experienced in all phases of the engineering cycle, from Scoping and Conceptual design, through to Start Up nd Operations.

As the project definition starts to take form, we closely interface with the major disciplines of civil, structural, mechanical and process engineering. We build an interface table that identifies key activities in these mentioned disciplines, and call out the electrical / instrument deliverables that will be developed.

The output from these deliverables feeds back to the major disciplines one more, and the cycle becomes refined. We prepare preliminary equipment lists and deliverables (for all phases) and make our first Order of Magnitude cost calculations.

I addition these costs, we include other management and overhead costs, as well as risk mitigation estimates. We then roll these costs back to the EPC/EPCM. We take care to be fully transparent to ensure we neither have gaps or doubling.

The process is continually refined as the project progresses through the three stages of FEL.

Some of the activities and deliverables we deliver during the detail phase include:

Electrical Engineering

Our electrical engineering capabilities cover the full spectrum of requirements for a safe and efficient design. We have been involved in onshore projects with high voltage distribution of 132/69kV, medium voltage utilization of 13.8 to 3.3 kV, and low voltage utilization of 600/480V systems. Our offshore/marine work includes MV and LV installations.

Our services include the engineering and design of:
  • Electrical Design
    • Area Classification Plans
    • Single Line Diagram and Control Schematics
    • Substation Layout Cable Routing,
    • Grounding, Lightning Protection,
    • Lighting & Instrumentation Plans
    • Cable Schedules & Interconnection Charts
  • Electrical Engineering
    • Design Basis & Load List
    • Sizing and Selection of Electrical Equipment
    • Specifications,
    • MTO and Requisitions
    • Vendor Drawing Review
  • Electrical Studies & Calculations
    • ETAP (for Power System studies)
    • Capacitor Sizing
    • Motor Voltage Drop Study
    • Grounding Calculations
    • Cable Sizing
    • Lighting Calculations
    • Lightning Protection Calculations

Fire Suppression Engineering

We are able to engineer the basic fire suppression requirements according to NFPA, ABS, DNV and SOLAS. We offer the following service:
  • Coordination of gas requirements according to applicable requirements and fire zoning plan
  • Calculation of gas concentrations and required bottle counts and skid arrangements for required redundancy requirements
  • PIDs and main piping layouts with branches and instrumentation
  • Control station requirements and layouts
  • Interface with HVAC and other shutdown systems.
